The Baltic gateway on the northern corridor
St. Petersburg is Russia's window on the Baltic: containers arriving at the Shushary terminal sit next to the region's largest distribution warehouses and the ports that serve Finland and the Baltics. Block trains from China run the same trunk corridors as the Moscow service — west through Alashankou or Khorgos, north through Manzhouli — and the western gateway is the faster one: about 20 days from Xi'an, about 25 days from Chengdu, Chongqing, Changsha, Nanjing, Suzhou, Shanghai, Jinan, Tianjin, Guangzhou and Gaoyi (Shijiazhuang).
